Moreover, the app provides localized alerts. Residents receive updates about crimes and incidents in their area. For instance, alerts may include locations like West Ashley, Romney Street, or Spanish Oaks Apartments.
The platform also supports multiple languages. Spanish-speaking users can access features like real-time notifications and anonymous tips. As a result, the app reaches a wider audience.
Furthermore, the crime mapping feature improves awareness. Residents can view crime hotspots using the community crime map. This helps them understand local risks more clearly.
Karen Cordray, Associate Chief of Administrative Support, highlighted the app’s success. She shared that the platform already has 554 subscribers and over 11,000 views. Therefore, these numbers show growing community engagement.

Chief Ron Camacho brings valuable experience with this technology. Previously, he used similar tools in another department. Since 2016, he has seen how community engagement reduces crime.

Departments like the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office and Charleston Police Department are now reviewing the app. They are considering expanding its use across the region.
Camacho explained that shared information often helps multiple areas. For example, tips from one city can solve cases in another. Therefore, collaboration plays a key role.

Organizations like the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies support such tools. Similarly, the American Corrections Association encourages community engagement.

Currently, around 300 departments nationwide use similar platforms. Therefore, this move places North Charleston among leading agencies.
