Flatbed-Truck-Accident-Temporarily-Shuts-Down-I-75-North-Near-Eisenhower-Parkway

An accident involving a flatbed truck carrying an oversized load caused significant traffic disruptions along Interstate 75 North in Bibb County on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred around 1 p.m. on the on-ramp to I-75 North at Eisenhower Parkway. Authorities said a semi-commercial flatbed truck was transporting an oversized load when part of the cargo partially slid off the flatbed while the vehicle was traveling along the ramp.

Deputies stated that the truck driver immediately recognized the issue, safely stopped the vehicle, and contacted emergency services. Law enforcement officials credited the driver’s quick response with preventing further complications or potential collisions.

Due to the position of the truck and the shifted load, traffic on the on-ramp and surrounding roadway was blocked for several hours. Deputies closed the affected area to allow crews to secure the oversized load and ensure the roadway was safe for travel.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office initially urged motorists to avoid I-75 North and Interstate 16 near Eisenhower Parkway while the situation was being addressed. Drivers were advised to use alternate routes, including ramps at Pio Nono Avenue, Rocky Creek Road, and Mercer University Drive, to bypass the closure.

Traffic remained restricted until approximately 3:45 p.m., when deputies confirmed that the load had been secured and the roadway fully reopened. Once the scene was cleared, traffic flow gradually returned to normal.

Officials confirmed that no injuries were reported as a result of the incident and that no other vehicles were damaged. The sheriff’s office noted that the situation was handled without further incident due to coordinated efforts between the driver, deputies, and response crews.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division conducted an investigation at the scene to determine what caused the load to shift. Oversized loads require special handling and securement procedures, and investigators typically review factors such as load balance, tie-down equipment, and roadway conditions.

Authorities reminded commercial drivers of the importance of proper load securement and encouraged motorists to remain patient and alert when traveling near large commercial vehicles, particularly in high-traffic areas and on highway ramps.

The incident serves as a reminder that even when no injuries occur, roadway disruptions involving commercial vehicles can significantly impact traffic and require extended response efforts to resolve safely.
