A 17-year-old was arrested Tuesday after a brief police pursuit ended in a multi-vehicle crash that left several drivers with minor injuries, according to the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office. The incident occurred in the Savannah area and prompted temporary road closures while deputies investigated the scene.

Sheriff Coleman stated that deputies first became aware of the suspect’s vehicle earlier in the day at an intersection in Liberty County. Authorities said the vehicle initially drew attention after it ran a stop sign, prompting a deputy to begin monitoring the car.

According to the sheriff, the deputy followed the vehicle for a short distance without activating emergency lights or sirens. After observing additional traffic violations, the deputy turned on emergency equipment in an effort to initiate a traffic stop.

As deputies continued their efforts, they learned that the vehicle had been reported stolen. Authorities said the vehicle was taken from the suspect’s mother, which escalated the situation and led to a brief pursuit.

The chase ended when the suspect crashed the vehicle near the intersection of Victory Drive and Montgomery Street, close to a McDonald’s restaurant. The crash involved several other vehicles, resulting in multiple drivers being evaluated and treated for minor injuries at the scene. Officials confirmed that no pedestrians were injured during the incident.

The suspect was identified as Jebree Murphy, 17. According to authorities, Murphy attempted to flee on foot after the crash but was quickly taken into custody by deputies. He was transported to a local hospital for evaluation before being placed under arrest.

Sheriff Coleman stated that Murphy will be charged as an adult and is expected to face multiple serious traffic-related offenses, including potential felony charges. Officials did not immediately specify the full list of charges but indicated that they stem from the pursuit, the reported vehicle theft, and the resulting crash.

Roadways in the area were closed for approximately one hour as deputies conducted their investigation, documented the scene, and cleared damaged vehicles from the roadway. Traffic was later reopened once officials determined the area was safe.

The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident and is asking anyone with additional information to come forward. Authorities encouraged witnesses or individuals with relevant details to contact the sheriff’s office directly.

Officials emphasized that police pursuits are taken seriously and are closely evaluated to balance public safety concerns with enforcement efforts. The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers associated with fleeing law enforcement and reckless driving.
